Human Skin And Its Disorders

The outer covering of a Human Body is called Skin. It is also the second largest organ of body, covering about 2.0 square feet. Human skin contains seven layers of ectodermal tissue and works as a guard for the muscles, bones, ligaments and other internal organs.

Human skin also shows similarities with other mammals and is very much like the pig skin. Human skin tends to have hair follicles on it, but it can also appear hairless which is called the Glabrous Skin.

Skin plays a very important role for the immunity of the body and help in protecting against the pathogens. Other roles which are played by the skin are insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, synthesis of vitamin D and protection of vitamin’s folates.

Structure of the Human Skin-

Skin is the most exposed part of a human body which deals with the external environment. Exposed skin also absorbs the harmful ultraviolet radiations from sunlight due to the presence of cells like melanin. Also, it contains the enzymes which are responsible for DNA repairs and it helps in reversing the UV damage.

Types of Skin Disorders-

As we had already understood what Human Skin is and what are its key functions and components it is time to study the disorders related to it. If we categorize the types of skin disorders, it will be-

  1. Temporary Skin Disorder
  2. Permanents Skin Disorder
  3. Internal Skin Disorder

Temporary Skin Disorders-

These disorders are temporary and can be healed. Mainly these disorders are associated with age or hygiene habits.

Hives- Hives can be understood as the red raised bumps or welts on the skin. They originate from the normal layer of skin and it can be caused due to some allergic reaction or from some illness.

Warts- Warts are also little bumps raised on the skin and it is caused due to the Human Papilloma Virus or the HPV.

Acne- The most common skin condition that has spread in the world, acne can appear as the little red pimples having pus or a large bump caused due to an infection.

Permanent Skin Disorders-

As the name suggest, these disorders are permanents and cannot be healed completely. These disorders can appear from birth or at any point of life.

Moles- They appear on the skin due to bunching of skin tissues. Moles are very common and can grow any time on the skin.

Seborrheic Dermatitis- Usually found in baby’s skin, it appears as reddish, swollen and greasy. It is also called the Cradle Cap.

Lupus- It is one of most complex disorder in human body. Lupus affects the person’s immune system can cause inflammation and pain.

Internal Disorders-

As the name suggest, these disorders are caused due to some infection under. These disorders can be healed with proper medical treatments.

Carbuncle- They are the red, swollen cluster of boils appearing due to an infection under. The cause of these boils is the infection at the root of the hair due to deposition of pus.

Cellulitis- It is a bacterial infection that results in swallowing and redness. It feels painful and warm when touched. It normally affects legs but can also appear of on other parts of the body.

Apart from these, these disorders can also vary in different age groups. We can categorize these disorders in between Children and Adults.

In Children, we can see disorders like Hemangiomas which are small red bumps of scratches in infants. Measles is viral illness and it appears as red and brown rashes. Impetigo is a contagious infection and it normally causes itchiness and blisters on face and mouth.

In Adults, we can see disorders like Age spots which results in pigmented spots on skin. Herpes is an infection cause due to reappearing of chickenpox. Seborrheic keratoses are the black or dark brown bumpy patches that appears.

As we had seen Disorders can vary very much, from temporary to permanent, different in child and adults. No matter how disguised they are, it is important to get them diagnosed and treated. Here are some remedies that we can find in our home that can be used on our skin. Milk, Honey, Besan, Turmeric, Lemon, Yoghurt, Cucumber etc. We should always be careful while using cosmetics because they can cause allergies. We need to understand that different seasons needs different care, like use of different products and types of clothes suitable for the season.
